Description
Air plants, or bromeliads, are cool plants. They are not parasitic. But they do not need soil to grow. They just need a surface. It could be a fence, a quiet sidewalk, and quite often, a tree. Cypress Swamps usually have a lot of them growing on the Cypress trees. They store their own water.
One of the largest and prettiest of the native bromeliads to Florida is the Cardinal Airplant. There are two variants of this species in Florida. There is the Tillandsia fasciculata var. clavispica and the Tillandsia fasciculata var. densispica. I believe this to be the latter, though I wouldn't be on it.
