Description
This flower, native to Mexico, is called a Sleeping Hibiscus. It is not a Hibiscus, but it is related by way of the Mallow family. It "sleeps" because it never opens. Other common names for it are Turk's Cap and Cardinal's Hat. The scientific name is Malvaviscus penduliflorus. Many Floridians associate the flower with Christmas as the combination of red and green match the season.
I love how the backlighting sun turned the flower orange (It is a natural red) and translucent.
